Grade School Photo Album #001 to 009
Grade School Photo Album Special Note to Photo #010. "Clover Kids in Filer High School, Class of 63" Eight students transferred from the Clover Grade School at the end of their eight grade to Filer High School, Freshman year. These eight students started in the first grade together in the fall of 1951 and all graduated from Filer High School, May 15, 1963. These eight students are: Wayne Fischer, Cheryle Gartner, Sherrie Lierman, Suzanne Lierman, Gerold Ohlensehlen, Sharon Pubanz, Gary Saenger and Glenn Schroeder, . 010: Clover Grade School, Grades 1 & 2, 1952-53 year. The Filer High School, Class of 63, Classmates are: third row, 4 right most kids: Sharon Pubanz, Cheryle Gartner, Sherrie Lierman & Suzanne Lierman, fourth row, 2nd kid: Glenn Schroeder, 6th, 7th & 8th kids are: Gary Saenger, Gerold Ohlensehlen and Wayne Fischer. . 011: Hollister 1st Grade (written by Martha Peters/Winn): Laron Fullmer is in the back row between 2 girls and is second from the last on the right end of the row. He has on bib overalls. I'm the last one on the right end of the middle row in a plaid jumper. Monty Bess is on the left end of the front row in the shirt with baseballs or some kind of circles on it and Karen Pendergraft is next to him. John Lanting is in the middle of the front row in a light colored shirt and jeans, and Jim Patrick is next to the last on the far right end in the cowboy shirt. Our teacher was Mrs. Cutler. We didn't have kindergarten at Hollister. Some of the other kids who went to Filer but didn't graduate with us include Sharon Huddleston (middle row with the bow in her hair) and Kathy Black (I think she went to Jr. High in Filer for a while) who's next to Jim Patrick on his left. Becky Parrot is on the other side of Jim Patrick on the right end of the front row. I believe she has passed away and was a special ed child, although we didn't have special ed at Hollister, either. If Judy Ward is in this picture, I don't recognize her and I don't see Jo Ann Owen. Maybe they can pick themselves out! . 012: Hollister 3rd Grade (written by Martha Peters/Winn): Katherine Lutes was our Third Grade teacher and is Susan Lutes' mother. Susan went most of the way through the Filer schools with us, but moved before graduation and was very active in band. She's in the front row on the far left end in the white, striped dress with a dark jacket. Her father was the principal and was also our sixth grade teacher. Kathy Black is next to her. Karen Pendergraft and Judy Ward are in the front row between two boys. I can't remember much about Richard ( to the left of Karen) but Raymond Peterson (right from Judy) lived in Rogerson and started Jr. High with us in Filer. He and John Lanting have on striped shirts and John is next to Raymond. Nelda Sligar (hope I spelled the last name right) was in our class and transferred to Twin during high school sometime. I'm next to her in the dark dress (it was dark green silky fabric!) and Jim Patrick is last in the on the far right. JoAnn Owen is in this picture and has the long hair (she's third from the left end of the back row and has a dress with a white collar and white belt. Laron Fullmer is in a T-shirt and is just left of the middle of the row and Sharon Huddleston is on the end. . 013: Hollister 4th Grade (written by Martha Peters/Winn): In the Fourth Grade, Susan Lutes is on the front row, left end again and Kathy Black is next to her again. Nelda Sligar is after the next boy in the row and has on a dress with lace or something that forms a V on the front of it. Sharon Huddleston is next to her, then a boy name Richard Bailey who was also in the previous picture. Then there's me, next to Anita Davis (also in the previous pictures and who lived by Judy and eventually moved to Dietrich). Judy has on a plaid skirt and white sweater and Jim Patrick is in his usual spot (on or near the far right end of the front row!) Raymond Peterson is on the left end of the back row, and John Lanting is in a dark shirt or jacket with some white on it. Laron Fullmer is next to the last on the right end of the row and Karen Pendergraft is on the end with her hair pulled back. Our teacher was Mrs. Walker and she had fairly bright red hair. She only taught for a year or two at Hollister and ours was her first and maybe only class. That was special, because for third grade with Mrs. Lutes, we'd been in a 3rd-4th combination class, but got our own classroom and teacher for 4th grade. Mrs. Walker taught us multiplication and the great works of art! . 014: Bessie Ford: (written by Martha Peters/Winn ) Bessie isn't in any of these photos, but she was definitely part of our class, and in 6th grade, we staged a wedding during the lunch period for her and Jimmy Patrick! I'm not sure when the photo of Bessie was taken, but I was delighted to discover it among my other pictures. I certainly agree that we were blessed to have been able to have received our education in these smaller schools and classes and from teachers and administrators who really loved children and knew how to teach. As I went off to learn to become a teacher myself, I was surprised that elementary schools had such extensive libraries and large classes. It looked to me like "mass education" and I wasn't so sure about it. I'm still not. The teachers and administrators we had in District 413 really cared about us and about quality education. They also were well educated themselves. PS. I might mention, though, that our Second Grade teacher's name was Mrs. Winn and I thought it rather uncanny that I married someone who's mother's name was also Mrs. Winn and who taught second grade, the same grade I as another Mrs. Winn taught for most of my teaching career. PPS. I hope you're not overwhelmed with all this Hollister information, but I sure enjoyed the chance to reminisce! I've spared you the details on the rest of the kids in the pictures, but they, too, were a big part of our school days at Hollister Grade School. end of grade school photo album |
