- One thing that I remember is when Ralph Hodgin lived next door to the Filer High School. We would throw rotten eggs at each other inside of his dad’s barn. His dad would get very upset at us because of the rotten smell when he had to milk the cows. I worked as a cook at the Town & Country Drive-In which was the main hang-out for all the teens on “the drag”. The guys always called in and ordered “one car hop, with nothing on her”. My twin sister, Jean, worked there also, delivering out to the cars.
- I have always wanted to go on a moose hunt. I had the chance of a life time to hunt in Alaska. A neighbor friend from Twin Falls and I were flown in to a lake 100 miles north of Anchorage. The view of Mount McKinley was awesome. Our bush pilot circled the area in hopes of seeing a moose from the air, but we didn’t see one. He landed on the small lake and unloaded our gear and said, “See you in 5 days.” and took off, leaving us the Alaskan Tundra. We were in Grizzly bear country, so we took powdered eggs and canned food. We were always looking over our shoulders for a bear. We didn’t see a moose, a bear, or even a dry spot to sit. I broke off tree boughs and piled them up for a place to sit. Claire stayed in town and saw two huge moose just off of the freeway. She took pictures of them, which made the moose upset enough to tear up a small tree with their horns. Last year, I put in for a bull moose tag permit by Idaho Falls, and I drew. Claire and I left our camp at 7:00 a.m. and drove about a mile. A bull moose was standing on a hill about 80 yards from the road! At 7:20, I shot him. Claire drove the pickup to where he was at and I used three come-a-longs to hold his legs apart to dress him out. I hooked a chain around his neck and pulled him out of the small patch of sagebrush. I put my ATV ramps on the back of the truck, placed a sheet of plywood on them, and used an electric wench to get him into the truck. We went back to camp and used come-a-longs to hoist him into the tree. I skinned him out as we lifted him up, and by 9:30, 2 ½ hrs. later from the time we left camp. All 700 lbs. of him was hung, bagged, and covered with a tarp.
- I’m looking forward to retirement.
- While in school, I set my goal and desires for the American Dream; own my home, have a companion (who is my best friend, my wife Claire) to fulfill all my expectations, have children, and a good job. I am still in my same job of 25 years, Director of Twin Falls County Parks & Waterways. There are six major parks; Rock Creek Park, Centennial Waterfront Park, Murtaugh Lake Park and the waterfront, Balanced Rock Park, and Owsley Waterfront Park. We have Shoshone Falls Waterfront, Twin Falls Waterfront, Salmon Dam Waterfront, and Cedar Creek Reservoir Waterfront (Roseworth). I am in the process of developing a park adjacent to Rock Creek Park (the old Colonial Concrete place). It will be the Rock Creek Recreational Vehicle Park, with 24 R.V. hookups with electrical and water hookups. There are 2 large family shelters and 9 small shelters. We love our archery & rifle hunting, fishing, camping, water-skiing, 4-wheeling and all sports. We are tending Claire’s mother (92) and keeping her in her own home, which takes a lot of work.
- Our children are Machelle, Truli, and Jim Jr.. Machelle is a single mother with 5 children; Ashley 15, Chaz 13, Joshua 10, Sariah 7, and Tavian 1. She is a para-legal secretary in Twin Falls. Truli is a single mother with 1 daughter, Miranda 6, and a step-son, Eric, 11. She is manager of her own business, “Nice & Easy Payday Title & Loan” in Mt. Home. Jim Jr. is married to Leslie and has 3 sons. The oldest are twins, Justin & Spencer, 4, and Ian,1. She is pregnant and due in August. He works at a sand & gravel company here in Twin Falls.

- I remember that school was boring. I also remember Mr. Reichers, the typing teacher, getting fired which I thought was totally unfair! I thought Mrs. Gaumer was a great English teacher, Mr. Glassinger was also a good teacher and I liked Russell Hall who taught chemistry. I had fun at school, especially smoking in the parking lot with friends at lunch time and after school.
- Going to college and graduating with a B.A. degree in Social Science. Most of all, enjoying my grandchildren.
- I’d like to travel to Europe.
- I am a Developmental Specialist. I like to garden and go camping.

- It must be saying something about my age...but the memories of the days at Filer High are dim. Sure I remember good friends and some wonderful times, mostly associated with music activities and Mr. Farris; art class and Mr. Kious; Mrs. Moran and the many times Mr. Moran let us be "late" getting to History classes. (Funny because one of my great loves is History.) Mrs. Gaumer's speech class and the research we had to do. ( also a favorite - researching local and family history.) Her English classes were also ahead of the curve, Fred (like her glasses on a string), they saved my bacon in college....I actually had SOME clue how to write a freshman English paper!
- This one is a tall order...favorite times have been the opportunity to move back to Idaho, raising our 8 wonderful children a 1/4 of a mile from where I grew up, walking out my back door and looking at the peaceful hills that have been there for centuries, and drinking in the beauty of the high desert. Other favorites are studies and activities associated with Idaho's history...walking the Nee-mee-Poo trail, traveled by Lewis and Clark on their trek west...being able to publish stories of early history in this area, serving as President of the Idaho Archaeological Society... teaching 4th grade in Hollister Elementary....
- Is it possible to be limited to one? I would like to become a great artist, well at least spend some time painting watercolor landscapes and flora. Write and illustrate a book about Idaho's history. Travel to places I haven't been. Finish what I didn't accomplish last week.
- I currently teach in the Filer School District. Am interested in Idaho and family history, Archaeology, drawing, flower gardens, hiking/camping, visiting family (we spend a lot of time on the road between our children's homes), etc.
- Husband: Tracy (married long enough to get "gray".) Children: Randy (Julie) Britney and Andrew (down the road, Idaho); Clay (Joelle) Madison, Garret, Logan, and Olivia (Avada, Colorado); John (Rachael) (Phoenix, Arizona); Nathan (Mandee) Aydin, Brenna and Cole (Snoqualmie, Washington) ; Amy (Kyle) Emma, Kendra and Clara (Rigby, Idaho); Katie (Shane) Kaya and Ellissa (Payson, Utah); Mary (Brock) Dason and "soon" (Rexburg, Idaho); Erin (senior at BYU-Idaho) ...that was 15 and "one on the way" grandchildren.
